Dr. Shixuan Zhang is an assistant professor in the Wm Michael Barnes ‘64 Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering (ISEN), Texas A&M University. 

He obtained his PhD degree in Operations Research at the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology in 2022. 

Prior to joining ISEN, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute for Computational and Experimental Research in Mathematics, Brown University. 

He was awarded the Best Student Paper Prize, Honorable Mention, by the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) Optimization Society in 2021 and Outstanding Contribution in Reviewing for the journal Operations Research Letters in 2022. 

He was also a member on the prize winning team, GMI-GO, in the Grid Optimization (GO) Competition sponsored by Advanced Research Projects Agency–Energy (ARPA-e) in years 2019 and 2021.

The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering in the Texas A&M University College of Engineering was established in 1940. 

It has consistently ranked in the top 10 departments in the United States over the past 10 years by the Gourman Report, the National Research Council and U.S. News and World Report. 

The College of Engineering received the Bronze level award for the inaugural American Society for Engineering Education Diversity Recognition Program (ASEE) in 2019, and is currently ranking in the top 10 for Best Graduate Engineering Schools by U.S. News and World Report in 2023.

Dr. Shixuan Zhang looks forward to working with two Ph.D. students in the area of mathematical optimization for operations research, data science, and systems engineering. 

Topics of research interests include

• Polynomial and integer optimization,

• Stochastic and robust optimization, and

• Energy systems planning.
